Business Manager

New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

The Business Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the College's financial and administrative operations, ensuring compliance with state and system-wide policies, and managing business office staff. The Business Manager reports directly to the Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services and supports the College's financial stability.

Duties:

  • Manage daily financial operations, ensuring accurate administration of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and student revenue functions in alignment with state and local funding requirements.

  • Oversee daily switchboard operations for the college, ensuring efficient call routing, and high-quality customer service.

  • Oversee procurement, fixed asset management, and surplus property operations.

  • Administer the College's procurement card programs.

  • Manage the fiscal administration of college grants, including budgeting, tracking expenditures, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

  • Reconcile federal financial aid funds in accordance with federal regulations.

  • Oversee year-end financial closeout processes, including preparation and review of financial statements.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external auditors.

  • Supervise business office staff, including staff training and performance management.


KSA's/Required Qualifications


  • Evidence of well-developed skills in:

    • Organization and management of routine daily responsibilities

    • Oral and written communication

    • Problem solving with ability to take independent action within procedural guidelines

    • Staff supervision and team management



  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and reconciliations, with a high level of precision and attention to detail.

  • Understanding of and commitment to mission of community college and student success.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a team-oriented environment.

  • Proficiency in use of technology such as Microsoft Office and Google docs.


Additional Considerations:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, or related field

  • Knowledge of State fiscal policies

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Student Information and Administrative Information Systems or comparable systems.
