Manager, Employee Relations & Talent Development Virginia Peninsula Community College is seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager of Employee Relations & Talent Development to lead initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, foster a positive workplace culture, and support the development of a high-performing workforce. This is an exciting opportunity for an HR professional who is passionate about employee success, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and building strong workplace relationships. As a strategic member of the Human Resources team, you will partner with leaders across the college to provide guidance on employee relations matters, enhance talent development programs, and support initiatives that align with the college's mission of transforming lives through accessible and high-quality education. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead employee relations efforts, including performance management, corrective action, conflict resolution, and supervisor coaching.
  • Conduct complex workplace investigations and manage responses to EEOC, OCR, and other external complaints.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for grievance administration and policy interpretation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and institutional policies.
  • Oversee talent development initiatives, leadership training, employee engagement, and organizational development programs.
  • Supervise the Talent Development Specialist and support enterprise-wide learning strategies.
  • Analyze workforce trends and recommend process improvements and strategic solutions.
  • Partner with leadership to enhance organizational effectiveness and employee experience.
Required Qualifications
  • Progressive Human Resources experience in employee relations, investigations, compliance, grievance administration, and talent development.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and workplace investigations.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience advising leaders on complex employee relations matters.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Human Capital Management (HCM) systems.
Other Considerations
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, Title IX, mediation, labor relations, or change management certifications.
  • Experience in higher education, public sector, or community college environments.
  • Experience leading EEOC responses, grievances, organizational development, and enterprise-wide training initiatives.
