Job Description:


BROAD FUNCTION

This is an exceptional time to join SUNY Onondaga (OCC) as a faculty member of the Computing and Applied Technology Department at the forefront of innovation and growth. With Micron's substantial $100 Billion investment, Onondaga County is set to become home to one of the largest semiconductor fabrication facilities in U.S. history, poised to generate 50,000 new jobs locally. Anticipating a rise in enrollment for existing engineering and manufacturing programs, exciting innovations are already on the horizon for the OCC campus, including the development of expanded simulation areas to enrich hands-on student experiences, the establishment of multiple new research spaces, and the introduction of new curricula to address the rising demand. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative team in setting the vision, designing courses, and growing the department.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

This position include college-level teaching of a wide range of computer related courses such as Web development, project management, networks, server administration, and tech support. There will potentially be additional opportunities to teach courses in other computing content areas such as programming, software engineering, computer architecture, and databases. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Be responsive to student questions and available for student support.
Use appropriate technology to enhance learning.
Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives.
Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion.
Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes.
Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester; and,
Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials.

This position reports to the Dean of Health and Technology.

Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or closely-allied field from an accredited college or university of foreign equivalency, 15 credit hours of relevant graduate-level courses, and (5) five years of full-time employment in subject area or closely allied field

OR

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or closely allied field from an accredited college or university of foreign equivalency, with an industry-recognized professional license or certification, and (3) three years of full-time employment in subject area or closely allied field

OR

Master's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or closely allied field from an accredited college or university of foreign equivalency and (3) three years of full-time employment in subject area or closely allied field

OR

Doctorate in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or closely allied field from an accredited college or university of foreign equivalency,

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Background in teaching college level courses.
Demonstrated connections with local industry.
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Bilingual in English and another language will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project);
Familiar with the following:
Databases - SQL and Access
Web Development - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and PHP
Programming Languages - Java, C++, Python, and R
Networking
Network Security
Server Administration

Additional Information:

The 2025-2026 starting salary for rank of Assistant Professor is $59,676.

Date of Appointment: August 19,2025. During each fall and spring semester, teaching typically occurs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 10:30 pm. Schedules, including required office hours, are selected in advance for each semester.
